1st international comenius project meeting, Valladolid, 5th – 9th of April 2014
The meeting in Valladolid (Spain) fulfilled our expections. Every task which was planned was realized in the course of the working sessions. We made clear decisions about the further activities concerning our next meeting in Pau (France) in June 2014. We are following our calendar of visits and again emphasized the distributions of our tasks for the following two months.
The painting serves as a symbol of our cooperation and we adjust the differences.
We realized powerpoint presentations accompagnied by comments from teachers and students and had an interesting insight in every-day school life of our partners.
We presented a wide range of information about our region and country in terms of history, culture, industry, sights etc.
The students presented the top five questions and reasons for conflicts at school.
The students used drama techniques to perform a conflict and a possible solution.
2nd international comenius project meeting, Pau, 10th – 15th of June
1. We have intensified the realization of the “European idea” by working on the project for almost one year.
2. Many students have become friends while establishing groups with intensive contact in social networks and many families have arranged further visits.
3. Concerning our project work we have proceeded according to our planning. As a result the students emphasized the meaning of communication when they were solving their conflicts mostly within their inner circles. In fact, there are situations when they need the help of the teachers, but they all agreed on not involving parents’ help.
4. By analyzing typical conflict situations we found possible points of return . There is a good chance of avoiding the crisis if you leave out:
· bullying
· discriminiation
· violence
· bad words
5. We have realized our idea of a drama techniques workshop where students created a role-play on a chosen conflict. We have produced a DVD with different conflicts and suggested solutions.
6. We exchanged our puzzle parts to create a truly European Logo.
3rd international comenius project meeting, Friedrichsthal, 25th – 30th of November 2014
1. Introduction of Augusto Boal’s Forum Theatre. Forming of a peace sign on the floor of the gym as a symbol of feeling connected by a physical contact.
We presented practical examples of the most important steps using Forum Theatre. We agreed on Forum Theatre as a possiblility to develop strategies in terms of conflict solution and deescalation.
2. Forum Theatre develops in the course of the following important steps:
1. Warming-up games
2. Frozen images – improvisation of the conflict
3. Question: Who is the antagonist/protagonist? Only the protagonist can be replaced.
4. Stop! Scene freezes – alternative acting by a spect-actor.
5. Important role of the joker! (asking people on the stage – rejecting magical solutions – discussing the alternative behaviour as an option)
3. French and Spanish students performed role plays with ideas of peaceful solutions to former violent conflicts.
4. We exchanged the third part of our logo-painting puzzle.
Evaluation of the meeting:
1. The students experienced the different perceptions of reality while being an actor or a spect-actor. It teaches them the nature of empathy.
2. Drama techniques in general and Forum Theatre in particular offer a safe frame for students to experience alternative behaviours in conflict situations without consequences.
3. They can try differnt options and offer possibilities of deescalation.
4. As a group of spect-actors it offers opportunities to find a way to succeed as a team.
5. The students increased their cultural knowledge and improved their language skills. It is also important to mention the fun they had and the confidence which they gained by performing in front of their international partners.
6. We are a real good team – getting better every time we meet!!!
